Durian has been identified as one of 11 major fruit trees in the Mekong Delta . Currently the region has 11,000 hectares of durian, many set in Tien Giang , Vinh Long and Ben Tre . Durian is grown for 4 years starting from 5-6 year harvest and yield stabilized at 30-40 tonnes / ha .
