Mekong Delta strive to improve the value of aquaculture to 46,000 billion

In January this year, the province has put nearly 400,000 water in farming and has over 1 million tons of harvested fish, reaching 42% of the plan year, valued at over 19,000 billion, of which 158,000 tons of shrimp ; 0.5 million tonnes of fish and exports both commodities reached $ 1.3 billion.
 
Aquaculture in the Mekong Delta are mainly black tiger shrimp, white shrimp, catfish and other freshwater fish. The method adopted is extensive improvements to the black tiger shrimp and clams, for intensive culture of white shrimp and fish. The remaining objects in the form of extensive farming improvements, semi-intensive and intensive.
 
Concentrated breeding areas are the provinces of Ca Mau, Bac Lieu, Kien Giang, Soc Trang, Tra Vinh, Ben Tre. Freshwater aquaculture is concentrated in the coastal provinces like Tien and Hau rivers and An Giang, Dong Thap, Can Tho, Vinh Long.
 
The province has extended model SQF 1000CM, VietGAP, GlobalGAP; strengthen human resources for training for farming, mining and processing have higher qualifications; business support technological innovation in order to diversify the products, meet the rigorous demands of the international market; expanded market information system, promotion, marketing for each product group.
 
Along with that, the Mekong Delta continues to build irrigation systems for the multi-target freshwater, brackish water, consistent with climate change scenarios while ensuring supply, good drainage in breeding areas focus; promoting quarantine to limit to the minimum entry substandard seed in farming areas, especially major varieties for export including prawns, fish.
 
The province enhance water environmental management farming areas, product storage after harvesting, processing, consumption and export; strengthen quality management, food safety according to international standards.
 
Besides, the local focus also expand the domestic market, focusing on building brand seafood quality standards associated with each key products; mobilizing businesses expand regional construction materials, links, contracted consumption of raw materials units, individual households. Thus, the results of production, the value achieved in accordance with the plan. /.
