Agro-fisheries exports make inroads into Mexican market

Update: 11/17/2014

(VOV) - Hoang Tuan Viet, the Vietnamese trade councilor in Mexico, on November 14 attended a dialogue addressing difficulties related to the country’s agro-fisheries exports to the Mexican market.

Speaking at the event, Viet noted Vietnam’s key exports to Mexico are rice, pepper, coffee and basa fish. Last year, Vietnam ranked fourth in exporting rice to the Mexican market trailing fourth after the US, India and Uruguay.

Viet proposed speeding up negotiations for bilateral agreements pertaining to animal and plant quarantines and issuance of an e-quarantine certificate to facilitate exports of farm produce to Latin America’s second largest economy.

Earlier, he worked with  Mexico Ministry of Economy representatives in Laredo,  inquired into some trade centres and met with representatives of three local businesses to discuss cooperation and trade issues.

These businesses, Grupo Serval, Alcex International and Importaciones RAM-DAM, expressed a strong desire to import agricultural machines, components, trucks, steel, motorbikes, farm produce and garments and textiles from Vietnam.

Mexico is Latin America’s second largest market importing Vietnamese goods, after Brazil. Two-way trade turnover has surpassed on average US$1.5 billlon in recent years.
