Update: 2/6/2017

JACKFRUIT

Jackfruit is a unique tropical fruit that is typically harvested during summer and fall.

The fruit can grow to enormous sizes with an average weight of 3.5kg to 10 kg and can reach up to 25kg.

It is round or oblong-shaped, and has an outer surface that is covered with blunt thorn-like projections that soften as the fruit ripens. Inside each fruit are hundreds of small, succulent yellow lobes.

Besides the sweet taste, jackfruit is also nutritious food:

+ It is rich in vitamins, minerals can help improve digestion.

+ As a good source of vitamin C — also a powerful antioxidant — which makes it useful in helping fight off infectious agents while scavenging harmful free radicals in the body.

+ It is one of the rare fruits that is rich in a B-complex group of vitamins. It contains outstanding amounts of vitamin B-6 (pyridoxine), niacin, riboflavin, and folic acid.

+ Further, fresh fruit is a good source of potassium, magnesium, manganese, and iron. Potassium is an important component of cell and body fluids that helps controlling heart rate and blood pressure.
