Update: 11/21/2014

Tra Bong reduces poverty by cinnamon

Tra Bong cinnamon has become the staple crops to contribute to reducing poverty and stabilizing people's living. Tra Bong District currently has 5,000 cinnamon growers and all of them are the Cor ethnic group. Cinnamon is planted on an area of 1,200 hectares. Tra Bong cinnamon is exported to the Asian markets and expected to export to the EU. The cinnamon ensures the highest requirements of flavor. According to leaders of Tra Bong District, the lowest price for cinnamon chips and twigs was VND21,000 per kg and cinnamon has been seen as the staple crops of the district. To reduce the poverty rate, it is necessary to invest in the economic development and one of the priorities is to revive the cultivation of cinnamon.

Tra Bong District People's Committee Chairman Ho Van The said that: "Tra Bong is a poor district. In the future, we will try to catch up the economic development of the province. The district will prioritize to develop agriculture and exploit advantages from cinnamon."

The district will focus on developing the industry through the encouragement of exploitation and material trading to mainly serve for the infrastructure development. The district will implement the planning of industrial zones and strongly develop Thach Bich industrial zone and Tra Xuan handicraft village. The district has made preferential investment and loans to attract investment and created open mechanisms and favorable conditions in granting lands for business.

Son Tinh promotes the economic restructuring

Son Tinh District currently has two industrial zones, one handicraft village and eight craft villages. There are 20 enterprises investing in industrial zones and 1,154 manufacturing facilities in craft villages.

The Son Tinh District People's Committee and Vietnam-Singapore IZs Joint Venture Company recently held a ceremony to announce the detailed planning of VSIP industrial zone in Quang Ngai. As planned, its industrial zone is located in Tinh Phong and Tinh Tho Communes, Son Tinh District with total area of 1,226 hectares. VSIP industrial zone will focus on the development of light and clean industry, including food processing, the production of customer goods, electronics, automobile assembly, construction materials and other supporting industries.

According to Son Tinh District People's Committee Chairman Pham Vinh, VSIP project has special significance for Son Tinh's socioeconomic development because investment in the project will create favorable conditions to promote the economic restructuring, develop the industry and services and create jobs for local people. This is also an opportunity to accelerate the pace of urbanization in the district.

The implementation of this project will certainly have difficulties, especially in the work of compensation and ground clearance. Therefore, leaders of Son Tinh District would like to implement projects in accordance with approved planning; closely coordinate with local government in the compensation and ground clearance. Focusing on vocational training and prioritizing the recruitment of local labor have been mentioned. In the investment process, it is necessary to ensure the environment and landscapes and create good relationships with local people and the government. Son Tinh District would also suggest completing a resettlement area./.
