Japanese purple sweet potato prices in Mekong Delta, Vietnam fell sharply

Update: 3/27/2013

After more than half a month maintaining at the price 1.1 - 1.2 million VND / 60 kgs, Japanese purple sweet potato prices reduced strongly in the Mekong Deltaz.

Mr Luan Son Van, Chairman of Tan Thanh sweet potato cooperative, Binh Tan District, Vinh Long province, said that currently Japanese purple sweet potato (type 1) are bought with the prices  about 555000 - 600000 VND / 60 kgs by tradersright at gardens, decrease 500.000 - 600.000 VND per/ 60 kgs.

Prices of red or white or milk sweet potatoes, also decreased from 100,000 to 200,000 VND / 60 kgs, they are only fluctuating around 140,000 to 300,000 VND / 60 kgs (depending on what type).

There was a strong price falling like this because consumption dramatically reduced, both in domestic market and the export quota to China. "About 90 percent of potatoes are consumed in Chinese market, so the prices heavily depend on fluctuations in this market. If Chinese traders boost purchasing,  prices will immediately rise up but if not, they fall right away " Mr Luan said.
