Ben Tre coconut prices increase because of drought

According to Truc Nguyen Thanh, professional trader of fresh and dry coconuts from Ben Tre province to Thi Nghe market, Ho Chi Minh City, coconut prices at farm in Ben Tre province, have now increased from 60.000 - 70.000 VND/ dozen to 105,000 VND / dozen.

Mr. Hong Nguyen, with 3 hectares of coconuts in Ben Tre province said not only fresh coconut and dry coconut prices are soaring but also prices of dry coconut water used to make nata de coco have risen by 10,000 VND / per liter.
 
However, according to Mr. Hong, due to dry air, rivers in Ben Tre got salinity, so coconut yield has been very low.
 
According to "The salinity forecasts" of Ben Tre province, in coming time salinity in thae main rivers will still increase, productivity of coconut farming will continue to be affected.
