Vietnam: Surprise with new kind of cassavaUpdate: 1/10/2013
In the mountainous districts of Song Hinh ( Phu Yen ) , farmers are " warm pocket " with many bumper crop .
High-yielding cassava varieties mentioned above are KM 140 and KM 149 , the Song Hinh district and replicated trials in 2011 , and now has about 1,000 ha , the average yield of 40 tonnes / ha , more than 22 tons / ha compared with the average yield of the whole district .
By mid- May 9.2013 , farmers harvest cassava over 1,000 hectares ( 8,000 ha of crop year 2013-2014 ) , the average yield is estimated at 18 tons / ha . Notably, many of which have an area of new cassava varieties for yield doubled , tripled same old , profitable "surprise " .
Land is not fertile but 3ha cassava has brought great joy to his family Vien Nguyen ( Duc Hoa hamlet , Binh East Germany ) . Seeing new varieties for high yield , so the case this year he spent nearly ten million dong to buy seeds for planting replacement like traditional KM 94 .
The new varieties have different characteristics compared to other similar eye leaves thick , lower body and especially fast-growing trees , shorten harvest time .
Currently propagation speed is very fast , a few years to the same area could reach 7,000 - 10,000 ha.
