According to the Southwest Steering Committee , 2014, the Mekong River Delta plans to plant 60,000 hectares of sugarcane , yield 6 million tons of sugar cane , an area equivalent to 300,000 tonnes but production increased compared with 2013.

 

Acreage is most concentrated in the provinces of Hau Giang , Long An , Soc Trang , Tra Vinh , Ben Tre and Kien Giang . The area above will stabilize in 2020 as planned by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development . For imported varieties should be planted sugarcane varieties : K95 - 156 , Suphanburi 7 , KK2 , K93 - 236 , KU00 -1- 61 K88 - 65 , KU60 - 3 (Thailand ) , ROC27 ( Taiwan ) , VD85 -177 ( China ) for yield , sugar content ( CCS ) high , drought -tolerant , tipping over , less ash , good regeneration ability . Cane yield from 95-159 tons / ha , high sugar content .

 

Accordingly , the province will continue to build and upgrade irrigation facilities sugarcane crops ; reorganization of sugarcane , from small -scale to focus , forming the vast sugarcane fields to intensive farming conditions , increase productivity . In particular , new varieties change a top priority to promote the advantages of soil and apply measures the advanced science and technology into production to lower cost products . The province promoting research , implementation of mechanization in land preparation , care to improve productivity and quality .

 

To solve the problem of production , processing and consumption of cane price to farmers profitable , the Southwest Steering Committee requested the provincial allocation spread the appropriate materials to avoid redundancy .
