Vietnamese vegetable exports post robust growth

Update: 9/24/2013

Vietnam’s vegetable and fruit export turnover in the year to date rose 46.7 percent from the same period last year to more than US$724 million, according to the General Customs Department.

This is considered remarkably high growth for the sector, at a time when exports of most of other agriculture produce are facing declines in both volume and value.

Vietnam is likely to mark a total vegetable export turnover of $1 billion this year, according to the produce association Vinafruits.

“There is still more room for the [vegetable] exports to grow,” commented Mai Xuan Thin, a member of the Vinafruits executive committee.

At the 2013 Asia Fruit Logistical event held in Hong Kong earlier this month, manydistributors and supermarkets from Singapore, China, the Middle East, the US, and the UK asked for information about importing fruits and vegetables from Vietnam, Thin added.
