In the season, lemon drops

Update: 2/14/2019

This time lemons (white lemons) are entering the harvest period, plentiful supply has made lemon prices plummet. Through a survey of the Economic & Urban newspaper in some traditional markets such as Phung Khoang market (Thanh Xuan), Ngoc Lam market (Long Bien), Ha Dong market ..., currently lemon is sold for only 15,000 - 20,000 VND. / kg depending on the size of big or small fruit.
Ms. Nguyen Anh Hong, a small trader specializing in lemon trading in the wholesale market of Long Bien said: About a month ago, the source of goods was scarce, mainly imported from South or China, far away transportation costs, plus Many intermediaries have raised lemon prices. At one point, lemon prices were pushed up to 50,000 - 60,000 VND / kg. However, at present, lemons in the North gardens have started to harvest, plentiful supply has led to a sharp decrease in prices. "Cheap lemon prices also make demand for people's purchases soar. If before, lemon only used to make spices, now people also buy lemon to bathe, shampoo. Therefore, the amount of goods I exported is 3 times higher than before, ”said Ms. Hong.
Tran Thi Huyen's family (Chuong My) currently cultivates more than 300 lemons, said: Lemon this year is not as wrong as the previous year, small fruits and worse codes. However, due to the recent years of lemon growing areas in localities, the harvest output is still very high. At the price of lemon, Ms. Huyen sells at VND 10,000-12,000 / kg. According to Huyen, this is not the middle of the season, so this price is not the lowest. Only about 3 weeks when the white lemon entered the harvest, at the same time, peach and lemon began to harvest, the price of lemon dropped even further.
The current low price of lemon is an inevitable consequence of the massive expansion of crop areas not following the plan. To limit the chorus of falling season, according to Dr. Cao Van Chi - Deputy Director of Citrus Research and Development Center (Fruit and Vegetable Research Institute), people should not continue to expand the planting area. Besides, it is necessary to apply techniques to squeeze fruit out of season or extend the harvest time and improve product quality.
