Tet Jams of Vietnam

Update: 11/27/2014

For Vietnamese people , “banh chung xanh” (green sticky cake), “cau doi do” (red parallel scrolls) and “mut Tet” (Tet jam) as offerings to the ancestors have long become the traditional image of Tet.

Different Tet jams have typical colours and sweet tastes. Plentiful fruits supplied by the tropical climate are an abundant source of ingredients for jam production.

Apart from the good tastes, jams are also healthy. Sugar coated lotus seeds can serve as tranquillizer and yellow chrome preserved kumquats are good for the respiratory and digestion systems. Dry preserved squash, damson cheese, sugar coated peanuts and papaya, pineapple, tomato jams are also delicious jams for Tet.

To have good products, jam makers have to undergo many stages, from selecting ingredients, processing, desiccating and packaging. Vietnamese machine-made jams have nowadays reached foreign markets, bringing part of the warmth of the traditional Tet to overseas Vietnamese.
